The ACP FM-ER001 radiator is a popular aftermarket radiator option for 1964, 1965, and 1966 V8 Mustangs. This radiator offers several advantages and disadvantages that may help you decide if it is the right choice for your classic Mustang.
Pros:1. High-performance design: The ACP FM-ER001 radiator is specifically designed to provide improved cooling performance over the original radiator. Its increased cooling capacity can help prevent overheating issues, especially during track days or hot weather driving.
2. Tank-integrated design: This radiator features an integrated tank, which eliminates the need to purchase and install a separate oil cooler tank. This simplifies the installation process and saves you the additional cost of purchasing an oil cooler tank and hoses.
3. Aluminum construction: The aluminum construction of the FM-ER001 radiator is lighter and more durable than the original steel radiator, making it a popular choice for those looking to reduce weight or improve cooling efficiency.
4. Compatibility: The ACP FM-ER001 radiator is compatible with a wide range of Mustang models and aftermarket components, including electric fans, power steering pumps, and alternators.
5. High-quality materials: The radiator is manufactured using high-quality materials, including brass radiator tanks and steel radiator cores, for superior durability and long-lasting performance.
Cons:1. Cost: The ACP FM-ER001 radiator is typically more expensive than the original radiator, both in terms of purchase price and installation cost. This may be a concern for budget-conscious Mustang owners.
2. Custom fitting: Although the ACP FM-ER001 radiator is designed to fit a wide range of Mustang models, it may still require some customization to ensure a proper fit. This could include modifications to the radiator mounts, fan shroud, or other components to ensure proper clearance and functional compatibility.
3. Weight: While the aluminum construction is generally lighter than a steel radiator, it may still add some weight to the front end of the car. This could have a minor impact on overall performance and fuel economy.
Conclusion:The ACP FM-ER001 radiator is an excellent choice for 1964, 1965, and 1966 V8 Mustang owners looking for improved cooling performance and simplicity during installation. Its high-quality materials, integrated tank design, and increased cooling capacity make it a worthwhile investment for those who frequently drive their Mustang under demanding conditions. However, its higher cost and potential need for customization could deter some buyers. Ultimately, the decision to purchase the ACP FM-ER001 radiator depends on your specific needs, budget, and priorities as a Mustang owner.
Recommendation:I would recommend the ACP FM-ER001 radiator for 1964, 1965, and 1966 V8 Mustang owners who prioritize cooling performance and convenience during installation. It is an investment that can improve the longevity and reliability of your classic Mustang, especially for those who frequently drive it under demanding conditions or during hot weather. For budget-conscious buyers or those with limited modification experience, it might be worth considering the OEM radiator or exploring less expensive aftermarket alternatives. Regardless of the radiator option you choose, I encourage you to ensure proper installation and make any necessary modifications to secure a proper fit and optimal performance for your Mustang.
